Recently, a couple of girls have contacted us from Zambia. They have proposed what they want in their hometown and their country for a more peaceful and equal world. This is what they wrote: ‘The World We Want’
(As Youths in Lukulu, Zambia – 8th February 2014)
Group 1.
1. We want more jobs
2. Better health facilities
3. We want better education for youths
4. Better roads in our districts
5. We want water and sanitation
6. We want leaders who can listen to our problems as youths
Group2.
1. Education: We need to see us as youths develop Lukulu in terms of our schools. Teachers should be there because we have less teachers in schools
2. Health: As youths we need to have many clinics and hospitals so that even people who come from across the Zambezi River can have more access to them since there are no hospitals there. And there are many people suffering from different types of diseases while they are being kept home without going to hospitals.
3. Transport: We need to have several companies of transport, which is buses, because we only have one company – which is very shocking that we only have one because if you have an urgent meeting somewhere, lets say Lusaka, and you don’t find the bus the meeting can be cancelled.
4. Roads: We need good roads so that people can bring development in Lukulu and we’ll have things such as malls, shopping markets etc.
5. Good leadership: We need to have good leaders who can be representing us in Parliament.
6. Job opportunities: We need jobs as youth
Group 3:
1. Better Education: We want better education in Lukulu. Many young people are suffering due to lack of secondary schools in our District
2. Good health care: Due to lack of medication and hospitals many people are dying in our District
3. Good Roads and Network: There are many accidents which occur due to lack of good roads and vehicles
4. Better Sanitation: In order to improve good health to the people of Lukulu the Government needs to work on it.
5. Poverty Reduction; Many people in our District are suffering due to poverty. In order to reduce the rate of poverty we need good education.
6. Respect of Human Rights: In our District there is a lack of respect for human rights. Many young people and old people are being violated anyhow.
